- 14/10/2006 (Saturday)So I took one pregnancy test yesterday and two today. After two very faint blue lines and one very clear "Zwanger", which in Dutch means pregnant I found out I am indeed "in the family way" haha!So far, except the obvious thing of being 12 days late I have had a few symptoms. I've had an achy back, extreme tiredness and dizziness, tightish tummy pain and a raise in temperature which has led me to feel like I was having hot flushes at times! It is a bit soon, but I have told most of my family, who seem quite pleased! My dad is picking out a Tottenham Hotspur baby kit in his head as we speak!I have a blood test at the doctors on Monday to see that all is ok.
- 16/10/2006 (Monday)It was blood test and results today. Just to confirm everything, and it was all confirmed! I'm slightly nervous, mainly in a good way. Obviously I have no self control in keeping it all quiet for the first few months and have told just about everyone I care about. I do still have the same worries as everyone else I'm sure, I just hope all goes well and in less than 9 months I have a little bebe to show for it. I'm all good intentions at the moment, I want to eat well and do the right amount of exercise etc, I really hope I keep to it, lot's of moral support will be needed I feel. But I'm sure I won't deprive myself the occasional treat. A little of what you like does you good after all!
- 17/10/2006 (Tuesday)I just spoke to my doctors at the hospital. They want me to go in this week to discuss if I should continue to take the Immuran. I have an appointment this Thursday at 8:15 am. I have also had confirmation from my doctor that all else she tested for is fine, so that's good. She's going to now make up my pregnancy file, ooh sounds interesting! On a sadder note, my test results revealed that I'm not immune to a virus called CMV. Which means I can no longer work with children below the age of 5 or 6 as there is a high risk I can catch it and it can be fatal to an unborn baby. I feel a bit sad about this but I suppose it's not worth the risk. Katie, the head-teacher is going to find things I can do with the older kids and with all the extra time I'll have I guess it will be getting my website online now.
- 18/10/2006 (Wednesday)Using an online calculator I found out that my due date will be the 11th of June. I'm not sure how accurate this is, it'll be interesting to compare with the doctors calculation.
- 19/10/2006 (Thursday)I had my appointment at the hospital this morning. It was with my Crohn's doctors. They decided it would be better to continue with the medication as it has not been that long since my operation and a relapse could cause problems with my pregnancy. I was concerned about what it may do to the baby but was told that it should be no problem. (obviously there are no guarantees). They also assigned me to a gyno doc, a woman as I requested. I have my appointment on the 16th of November at 11am. I will be about 10 weeks then, I'm not sure if I will have an ultrasound or not as my doctor mentioned that it would be an 11 week scan, so maybe, I guess we'll see. My doctors also said that the first 12 weeks are the most important and I need to "look after myself". I'll have to do me best!
- 23/10/2006 (Monday)I had my first really yucky day today, I was feeling really unwell and nauseous until one of the teachers at the school made me have a ginger biscuit and a ginger tea, it did the trick but I thought I was going to have my first bout of pregnancy (morning) sickness, although it wasn't in the morning, it was actually 1:30pm. haha Another thing is, and I know this is normal, I'm just so exhausted, I just want to sleep all the time. Maybe I should get off to bed now actually!
- 27/10/2006 (Friday)I went to the doctor's surgery today to pick up my pregnancy file. It's this really cool little folder with all my medical pregnancy related details in. I also have to fill in family details and doctor's numbers etc and I can write in any appointments I have. It also has nice developmental pics of the baby as the months go by! It's actually very good. One problem, it's all in Flemish. It's ok as I know a lot of the words but I'm sitting here with my dictionary translating all the words I don't understand, what fun.I still haven't had any actual sickness yet, still a bit achy and I do feel a bit nauseous sometimes so hopefully that's all I'll get. Still I've heard it's not too late.
- 31/10/2006 (Tuesday)This week has been the worst so far. I feel tired like, all the time and my back is achy, especially in the morning but I suppose I'm lucky I haven't had any bad morning sickness yet. Maybe a little nausea, but that improves once I've eaten something in the mornings. Also my tummy is starting to look bigger, maybe I'm just bloated haha. I've been rubbing in the cocoa butter cream but I bet I still get stretch marks everywhere! As long as bebe is ok I suppose it doesn't really matter.
- 04/11/2006 (Saturday)The last few days have been the worst so far. I've felt so nauseous and certain smells just make me want to be sick yuk! As I've also said before I'm very tired and very achy, apparently as from the end of this week I SHOULD start to feel better as my placenta will start producing hormones instead of me making double the normal amount, Carl will be pleased to have a less grouchy me back I'm sure. As for Carl he's jumping head first into looking at all the baby stuff we need, trying to find the things with the best gadgets no doubt. But I've told him not to buy anything until after Christmas; I'll be about 17/18 weeks by then so way past the 3 month safety period. Anyway, I'll let you know if the moodiness etc eases up.
- 14/11/2006 (Tuesday)So, I left a big gap between this and the last entry. Nothing much is new, except my tummy is fatter and I've gone off certain foods as they make me feel ill. Even ginger biscuits, yuk! I'm a bit nervous as I have my first appointment on Thursday, no ultra sound but I think they will listen to the heartbeat etc, so hopefully all will be ok! I will write a message after the appointment on Thursday.
- 16/11/2006 (Thursday) I spent a lot of time at the hospital today. After peeing in a cup, so dignified! Then all the regular stuff, blood pressure, weight etc. The doctor tried to listen to the heartbeat but couldn't hear it. So then she did an ultra-sound to check all was ok and the reason turned out to be that I was a week less than we all thought. Bebe was only 9 weeks and my predicted due date has changed to the 20th of June, my cousins birthday. I didn't get any pics this time as it was just a check up but I saw the little baby and the strong little heartbeat! It was very exciting. I have my proper ultrasound on the 6th of December, so I'll get some little piccies from that ohhh exciting!
- 25/11/2006 (Saturday)Feel a bit grotty today, but I read that I'm supposed to start feeling better soon as the placenta begins producing hormones so I don't have to so much. So now I am actually 10 weeks and my "proper" ultrasound is fast approaching. Can't wait! Also this will be my last Christmas as just me and Carl, next year they'll be another little person too! Weird. We were also discussing names today and agreed on middle names for both boy and girl but can only agree on a girl first name. But it may change obviously.Anyway, I'll write again if I start feeling any different (i.e. better).
- 28/11/2006 (Tuesday)A really great thing since being pregnant is that I've discovered I can eat what I want again. Even oranges and tomatoes! No tummy aches or rushing to the toilet. It's like Crohn's has now turned a blind eye on preggars me. yay. Although I've heard this can happen when pregnant it usually goes back to "normal" after, so I intend to enjoy it as much as I can for now. On another note, as for the last few days I still feel extremely grotty and nauseous, especially today. Thinking about my ultra sound next Wednesday will get me through it.
06/12/2006 (Wednesday)We had the ultra sound today. It was a long 2 hour wait and I was starting to get grumpy by the time I was called in for the scan. It was so amazing though, the picture was so clear, we could count all the fingers and thumbs and see the feet etc. They did a Downs syndrome test where they measure the amount of fluid around the head and neck and she said that it looked fine. not that it would make a difference to me, but I guess it helps to be prepared for anything of needs be. We got the pics on the sheet of plastic acetate like an x ray so I'm going to have to see if it scans ok or not, then I'll put the pics on here!I just discovered I can't scan it so you'll have to wait to see me to see the pics!
- 04/01/2007 (Thursday)I know it's been a while since my last update but Christmas etc took over. I seem to have suddenly got a baby tummy over Christmas (and no, it's not because I ate too much!), actually at my last doctors appointment she told me I'd only put on 2lbs in the first 3 months. yay. I have so much less sickness now, so that's great too.I went to the hospital this morning for a consultation. Everything was fine. I got to hear the heartbeat and we could also hear that bebe was moving around alot too. Although I can't feel any movement myself yet it will happen soon. I keep willing it to happen. I was also told that they think it will be too risky to have a normal birth in case of complications due to my other surgeries so I will have a C-section a week before my due date. I have my next scan on the 8th of February and we are going to find out the sex, not sure if we'll tell everyone yet, you'll have to wait and see.Until next time!
- 17/01/2007 (Wednesday)My tummy definitely look bigger now, although I wouldn't say I am huge. At the moment I am supposed to feel movement from the baby at any time, so I'm desperate to and keep willing the bebe to kick me. Although they say that with your first baby you don't feel anything until sometimes 20 weeks so I'm not worried, just impatient. I am trying to drink more water at the moment, my recommend 2 litres which means my trips to the ladies are even more frequent and I feel like all I do is wee all the time! I can't wait until my 20 week scan on the 8th of February, but it just seems such a long time a way right now. I'm sure it will come around quicker than I think.
- 29/01/2007 (Monday)As from three days ago I have been feeling little baby wriggles. I wasn't sure at first but now I do definitely feel it which is very exciting. Also, although I'm not huge my tummy does seem to be going through the growth spurts at the moment; I will soon be visibly pregnant to everyone. I have my 20 week scan next Thursday, it seems to be forever away because I'm so excited about it, hopefully we will be able to know who is right on the baby sex predictions. On another note I've now started to notice that I get the odd little niggles, everything squashing around I guess, (nice thought eh?) and trapped wind, very amusing, but not for everyone else!
- 07/02/2007 (Wednesday)Since last Friday morning I've had a really nasty cough, I think it may be starting to ease off now but it has been so annoying. I haven't had a full nights sleep since Friday and I'm a grumpy lady! In the end due to the Immuno suppressant effect of my medication I have had to take a cough remedy, although I have one that is guaranteed safe for pregnancy and is also homeopathic, it doesn't taste too bad either which helps. I'm not sure how well I'll sleep tonight anyway as I have my 20 week scan tomorrow morning, obviously the main thing is that the bebe is ok but we're also desperate to know if it's a boy or a girl, we don't mind either way we just would love to know. I have also noticed a lot more movement over the last few days so hopefully we'll get to see that tomorrow.
08/02/2007-10/02/2007(Thursday-Saturday)It's been a strange few days since the scan. Everything went ok, and as most of you now know; IT'S A BOY! Ha, very exciting. it was more confusing at first as the baby is so much bigger so we saw sections at a time but just as amazing. The doctor who carried out the scan mentioned that there was a cyst in the brain, although we were worried at first she explained that some babies have this while they are developing and then it disappears within a few weeks. She said that it can sometimes be a sign of Edwards Syndrome but that there would normally be a number of visible abnormalities and in the last scan and this one bebe looked perfect in every other way. So, nothing to worry about and we will have another scan at 28 weeks to check it. My consultant said she didn't think it needed to be mentioned with everything else being fine so it all sounds good to me. I still have an awful cold which got much worse on Thursday night and I had to have a doctor out to me. He said because of my Crohn's meds my body couldn't fight the infection and I needed to have antibiotics (penicillin) otherwise it could become more serious. I had also developed sinusitis which is very painful. But as I write now on Saturday I'm feeling so much better. The doctor reassured me that the medication was safe for the baby as that was my worry. As I go into my 21st week the little movements and kicks are becoming stronger which is nice to feel. Especially when I relax, which is what I'm meant to be doing until this cold goes, snore! I'm sure I'll be fighting fit again soon.- 23/02/2007 (Friday)Went to the doctors today for a routine check up and blood test. We listened to the baby's heartbeat, which she found easily as soon as she put the machine on my tummy. It was an "excellent" rate, so the doctor said, we could also hear a lot of kicking too, and I obviously felt it too. I'm so glad my cold has now gone and really hope I can avoid getting another when the second half of term starts next week. My bump is getting very big now, luckily I still haven't put on a lot of weight any where else which is a relief, I just hope it lasts. My only complaint is more back pain and I now make a rather attractive grunting sound when I get up from lying down, rather amusing! We need to concentrate on getting the room sorted for the baby now, new furniture and rugs etc. I am going home this weekend so I look forward to seeing fellow bumpster Carly who is now about 15 weeks. I feel a baby and mama shopping trip coming on. Until next time!
- 26/02/2007 (Monday)We went back to the parents for the weekend to see Sally's baby Matthew for the first time. While there I got my first baby clothes for the bebe, two cute little babygros. Carl also felt the bebe kick for the first time yesterday, which he was excited about. He's like a little gymnast now, but mainly wriggles when I'm resting or trying to sleep. Now 23 weeks I have my next scan in 5 weeks. Hopefully I'll have a 4d scan also.
18/03/2007 (Sunday)Now he is kicking me all the time. I can even see my tummy move and move water when it covers my tummy in the bath! Today Carl put his ear to my tum and could hear the heartbeat, which he finds very exciting. I have also noticed that my belly has suddenly "popped out" and really notices now. This does however mean that there is absolutely no chance of me getting into any pre-pregnancy trousers now. We took our first bump pics of me today, mainly because everyone keeps telling us we should, but they turned out really well so I'm glad we did.
06/04/2007 (Friday)Been a while since I updated. I had my 28 week scan yesterday. It was so coool! We also got a quick 4d scan too. It was really amazing seeing his face, I think he looked like me when I was a baby and when we got home I showed Carl a photo and he agreed. I guess we have to wait a while longer to find out.He moved his face when we were going to take a picture and wouldn't move back, but at least we got to see him, we got a picture of his foot instead, he had "the toe" (my second toe is longer than my big toe) Carl was like OOOH nooooo! The cysts that were in the brain last time had completely disappeared which was a relief so all is ok there. Just need to work out how I can get ANY sleep at night now as I always wake up at about 2:30am to go to the loo and can never get back to sleep after grr. I guess I'm getting into practice for the sleepless nights that are coming. We nearly have all of the baby stuff we need now, just the odd bits to get. Hopefully bebe won't come along early before we have everything sorted. - 19/04/2007 (Thursday)Yesterday I rang Dr Pexters, my gynaecologist, to ask for a date for my C-section. We agreed on a date when she would be able to carry out the operation and it will be on Monday the 18th of June. So bebe Hills will arrive on or before that date. Eight weeks from now! Luckily we have almost everything we need ready so all is fine. Yesterday evening we had our first Pre-natal class. It was really good; I think we are going to find them useful. I'm especially pleased to know this will include a CPR/Baby first aid class too. I was worried that as I'm having a C-section and cannot breast feed the classes might not be as useful to me. But Kay, the teacher has assured me she will be covering all aspects and possibilities. I've just got over a few poorly days and am finally feeling much better. We have the cot and chest of drawers in the baby room and I just washed all the baby stuff so it can be put away and be ready to use when he comes along. I think I might be getting the nesting thing, but I'm trying to just do a little at a time as I'm quite tired at the moment. Understandable when you have someone head butting you in the bladder and kicking you in the ribs all night, so you don't sleep as much as you would like to.

22/05/2007 (Tuesday)Well over a month since I last updated. As well as growing a great deal since then I have had an eventful month. I had a weeks where I had 5 migraines and had to then go into Labour ward and be monitored in case of pre-eclampsia, I was fine though and they stopped after that. Then I lost my mucus plug rather early at 32 weeks. Then I had another cold which is still around in the form of the cough. After that on the Sunday the 13th I had to go into delivery again with contractions. When they started I was at a pre-natal class and was advised by my teacher Kay to just go get checked out. I stayed over night as they weren’t stopping but was ok and sent home on the Monday with orders to rest and do nothing else, I hadn’t dilated so the contractions weren’t doing much. So bless Carl, he has been doing everything, and very well too. (Only a little moaning). I was however in again on the Friday as they were much stronger. After monitoring and other un-pleasant tests I was told I had dilated 1cm and I was to continue resting but come back in on the Monday to be checked again. That was yesterday, I still haven’t dilated anymore so I guess I continue resting. I do still have contractions, with also a bad back and other “problems” not uncommon for someone in their last month. Dr Pexters said she hopes I will make it to 37 weeks but seemed unsure and said if I have any concerns at all I must go to Labour ward to be monitored. Maybe the next time I update I’ll have a little bebe?

25/06/2007 (Monday) So, Ollie was born on the 18th of June at 10:57am weighing 3 kilos 850/ 8lb 5 oz. The C section was pretty scary and I was shaking the whole time, I didn't expect that I would feel so much movement. However, as soon as I saw my little boy I forgot everything, it was such an amazing feeling. He has lovely dark hair and the doctor said "he is a big baby". The first week in hospital was both wonderful and challenging. It was fabulous to look at this little boy I'd been making for all those months, but also difficult to cope with the fact that I wasn't able to do everything I wanted to because of the surgery. Family visited and my parents and Carl's were all delighted with their new grandson. We came home today and I was very scared when we arrived home (I think this is normal as it is all quite overwelming) I thought "how will I cope?" and burst into tears. It is the evening now and I feel happy again. So the adventure begins....
This is the end of my little blog, but a whole new beginning!
